Hello to Drunk Blogging

Ever had one of those days where you really want to write something substantial but you find that your arsenal has dried up? Well that’s the state I am in now, so much so that I have to resort to alcohol to write something half witty. My parents would not be pleased at the prospect of me consuming the devil’s nectar, let alone being half drunk midday. But screw it. Times are difficult at the moment, I’m attempting to carry on with my life as though nothing has happened. Oh heartbreak, thou art an evil thing, attempting to turn me into an alcoholic and whatnot.

Anyway, I have finally joined the Tabi gang, having pined over them for a year or so now. They’re not pretty, no sireee, and yet they hold a special place in my fashion heart. These days though, I’ve been wondering if I’m overcompensating for a certain lack of ‘something’ by going over the top with my clothes. It’s been two years since I first dabbled in Rick Owens and I have been going overboard with my clothes since. It’s not enough for me to go out in just shirt and jeans, I am always compelled to add a leather jacket or a blazer, or some outrageous boots (yes I wear all of them in this stinking awful humidity, the secret is to avoid the sun at all cost). I always admire bloggers who look good with the simplest outfits, but when it comes to myself, a simple, straight silhouette no longer feels satisfactory.

Okay so that didn’t sound very intellectual, at all. But whatever. Here are some pics of me in a poncho that has a windscreen wiper.

You are definately one of those few who can make tabis look good. Also the photos are very nice, I like how the surroundings match your outfit.

Beautiful choice with the Tabis! I feel that when I get mine I will end up going the plain black route – not enough balls for anything more fanciful I’m afraid. But then, I could never do them justice the way you do. The Ann top is divine! I am glad you got it. x

1st of all, I hope your heart heels asap :) I hate to be the old, boring person, but yeah, alcohol is much more fun when consumed w friends, rather than for heart ache.
2nd, those tabis are great. I hadn’t seen ones like these before. loving the texture, and the effect that you created by adding simple white pants. beautiful.

Thank you Karina. I’m weaning off the terrible habit by keeping busy now.

The Tabis are gorgeous; great choice.
I also love your top – where is it from, if you don’t mind me asking?

I LOVE the poncho! And the tassle at the back is the perfect something extra – not windscreen wiperish at all!

So sorry to hear you’re going through a tough time right now <3

I’m glad you wrote this, I’m going through uneven times myself. There’s something wonderfully restrained about this tonal look and it works so well on you.

It’s refreshing to see you in cream tones. I’ve always wondered what it’s like walking in split-toe shoes–is it any different? They are polarizing choices for footwear but they look so good with the right ensemble, as is the case here.

Thanks Mika. They’re actually better than wearing flip flops, not much different from proper boots.

Such a gorgeous outfit – restrained but not restrained (…I said on SZ I couldn’t figure out a way to put it, and I still can’t :( ). A

nd I know what you mean about a sense of dressing to compensate. I think if you are happy with the way you are dressing, then you don’t necessarily need to explore the reasoning behind it beyond a simple why. However if you are telling yourself you are happy with the way you are dressing, but just beneath the surface of that thought there is a vague sense of unease or anxiety, then I think you really have to sit down and think things over. I came to that point two years ago, where I realized I was dressing in the way other people saw me and not in the way I saw myself. It seems a straightforward distinction given that dual nature of dress – the intimate and the public; but it took a long time for me to realize it. People may not notice what I wear or compliment me anymore, but I’m happier with the way I dress now, it feels more natural. I still feel like I’m at the starting gates, but at least I’ve chosen the direction this time, and it feels good.

      Thanks Syed!

I don’t actually feel a sense of unease per se but it’s a feeling that I can’t quite describe and I like it more than I hate it. It’s as if something is missing and I need to add a standout piece to feel complete. Perhaps like you a few years ago I’m still searching for my own direction at this moment.

I think that’s a good thing, and you just need to figure out why having that standout piece makes you feel complete. Not so much the desire, but rather what constitutes a standout piece to you, and so find a pattern to what you are drawn to.

As a whole it seems a far more organic form of dressing than people who seem to need to pile major piece upon major piece, with no break or rest in between. Your way seems a nice way of drawing the eye in, then allowing the other person the time to see the rest of the outfit without it shouting at them. I think we all like that little piece of luxury or something that really excites us, so it seems natural to want to include that in every outfit. Like Yohji says, it’s that little bomb in the outfit.
