Recreating A Runway Look

I wanted to re-use the original formula presented on Junya Watanabe’s FW12 look, but looking at this, I think I needed a stronger makeup, and up my oxfords game. Perhaps the navy/black colour palette isn’t quite as compelling too. Plenty of factors to re-consider, hmmm…..

This ensemble does seem a slight departure from what we usually see on your blog. However, I think you carry it perfectly! :)

Playing with a direct runway look is so enticing but whenever I’ve done it – make-up, hair, proportions – it never quite works. Is it because the styling is intended to be so transient, 10 minutes under bright lights?

Even if I do try my best to replicate a runway look, I reckon it’d look quite silly on the streets, because a show is a fantasy after all. And then there’s the most important factor that is us, the wearers, looking nothing like the gazelles on the catwalk. Physical attributes aside, they are meant to be mannequins, to fade into the clothes, while as the wearers, we infuse a little bit of ourselves into the clothes, so no matter what we do the overall image will be altered.
