Janneke Verhoeven – Epicycloïd Enlightment
These, my fellow shoe-lovers, are entries for the Golden Heel Award made by ArtEZ Fashion Masters student studying at Fashion Institute Arnhem. See I noticed how creative artists can be when they are not weighed down and constricted by bottomlines, yet as surreal as some of these works may be I can picture myself walking in them. In fact the wierder they are to most people, the more I love them.
Anyway I’ve tried to gather as much information about the competition as possible. It’s sponsored by a Dutch shoe company – Sacha. There is a voting system up and running on the website. I’m not sure whether the winner’s shoe would be reproduced for sale but if it does for the love of art I hope the design will not be compromised for the sake of commercialism. As of right now the shoes are exhibited at Tassenmuseum, a museum of bags apparently (definitely my kind of museum!). If I were anywhere in Europe I’d have trotted my way down just to catch a glimpse of these otherwordly works.
Check out their webblog here. It’s amazing.
