Margiela goat hair stole; Young & Restless asymmetrical dress; Rick Owens boots
Dressing in a hot and humid environment proves to be a difficult challenge, but there’s no reason why one should just stick to shirt, jeans and flats. Too often I see women having the mentality that an expensive, designer ‘It’ bag can rescue their shabby fits. If one’s goal is to be presentable, or to impress, a Prada, Balenciaga or Hermes arm candy will certainly not make up for a cheap, poorly-thought out ensemble of shirt, shorts, and slippers. I strongly feel that if one has the ability to afford expensive handbags, the money should first be put into investing in flattering, stylish clothes and great skincare. Unfortunately handbags are placed first and foremost because it’s a symbol of one’s social class, doesn’t matter that Birkins are a dime in a dozen now, and in the primarily Confucian Asian society, little else matters.

And I agree with your assessment, though I’m a huge handbag feind myself.

it’s so hot and humid where i live that most of the year, i can’t even stand to wear jeans. in fact, one pair (acne flex in basement) suffices. yes, there are specific wardrobe challenges in such an environment.
the dreaded hangbag-as-status-symbol syndrome…ugh.
that said – i love this beautiful drama in your ensemble!
Alicia – Sea Of Ghosts
by Alicia - Sea Of Ghosts on April 6, 2012 at 8:08 pmThis is such an important philosophy I struggle to adopt. In humid weather I become listless, lazy and uninspired. Perhaps the trick is to shop for the hot season well before it arrives so that I’m prepared.
This stole is incredible.

by Lucinda on April 11, 2012 at 10:14 pmLiving in a generally warmer climate I struggle with the opposite. Come winter I tend to slap an awful coat over my ‘summer’ clothes and forget the greater possibilities of layers… or the benefit of investing in a beautiful winter coat.
The slouchy boots really tie this look together.
